Past Achievements and Future Goals

The Barry’s started as a young crew of 14 year old mates, as the under 21 crew for Whangamata.  Over the years they have realised their natural athletic ability and bond as friends was transferring to their performance in the boat and decided to make representing New Zealand one of their goals.

On their path to this goal, the boys have picked up numerous medals, titles and “firsts” in their respective age group and field. Some of these include;

    The Barry’s have some strong goals for this coming season.
    • As a development team (under 23) they are keen to win over the Open Men’s Crew (typically older and more experienced rowers). After the 2016/2017 season where they have already beaten the Open Men’s crews, they are now even more driven to in fact be named as the Open Men’s Crew – despite still being in the under 23 age group for two more years. Being named as the Open Men’s Crew will enable them to receive the titles that a development team does not qualify for- even if they are the best rowers on the day.
    • NZ Surf Life Saving Nationals;
    - Double Gold medals in long and short course in Open Mens
    • To be selected as the New Zealand Open Mens crew
    • World Champs 2018
    Double Gold Medals in long and short course, Under 23.
    As you can see – the goals will stretch the ability of this young crew, however, based on current form, potential and dedication, these goals are well within their reach.
    All they need now is your support.
